Opera Out of Opera 2 made a vibrant stop in Monheim am Rhein with an extraordinary staging of Le Nozze di Figaro, brought to life in collaboration with the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra. Held on Wednesday, 22 January, the performance welcomed students from Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium—many of whom were discovering the world of opera for the very first time, making the event both educational and inspiring.
This remarkable presentation was made possible through the ongoing collaboration with the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, which has been in artistic residence at Monheimer Kulturwerke since August 2024. Their presence not only enriched the local cultural scene but also fostered deeper artistic dialogue across borders. Thanks to this partnership, Nova Opera was also able to contribute a distinctive production to the OOO2 programme, strengthening the project’s spirit of international cooperation and creative exchange.
Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) is a cornerstone of the operatic canon and one of Mozart’s greatest masterpieces. Premiered in 1786, the opera blends sparkling comedy with profound human insight, set to some of the most brilliant and emotionally nuanced music ever written. Its libretto, by Lorenzo Da Ponte, is based on the controversial play by Beaumarchais, which challenged social hierarchies and championed the intelligence and dignity of common people.
The opera tells the story of a single chaotic day in the household of Count Almaviva, where love, jealousy, deception, and forgiveness unfold in a series of clever twists and touching moments. With unforgettable characters like the quick-witted Figaro, the clever Susanna, and the conflicted Count and Countess, Le Nozze di Figaro continues to resonate with audiences for its timeless humor, vibrant music, and deep humanity.
